Peer Empowerment

Peer services play a crucial role in helping to advance wellness and recovery for clients living in the community. Peers are uniquely suited to use their own experience and personal knowledge to engage clients in treatment and recovery. Additionally, peer staff help guarantee that our clients' voices are heard to help inform and shape agency practices and policies.

At Community Connections, peers are utilized in several ways across the agency. Some are employees, others are participants in grant-funded programs. Some serve as interns and still others act as volunteers. In every case, peers helps clients understand how to take charge of their own treatment, how to cope with crises, and how to navigate an often confusing health care system.

If you have questions about peer services, please contact Renee Robertson, Manager of Peer Services at Community Connections at 202.608.4280 or rrobertson@ccdc1.org. If you are interested in becoming a peer staff member, please check our current job listings. If you are interested in learning about our internship program, please visit Intern with Us.
